- Austrian companies and start-ups are characterized by the development of vertical AI applications for companies.
- So far, no deep tech AI pioneer can be identified.
- The difficult search for competent employees and talent is an enormous limitation for the entire ecosystem. This becomes especially clear when looking at the low number of engineers specialized in machine learning or AI available on the job market.
- The education system does not yet address the need for in-depth training of data scientists and AI developers. In recent years, however, enormous progress has been made in establishing new training programs.
- Most AI start-ups are in (pre-) seed phases, with the Series A refinancing phase being the exception. There have been no major exits to date.
- Vienna has a comparatively extensive ChatBot ecosystem that does not create AI-based solutions, but is actively involved in the development of new applications along the latest frameworks.
