Summary & Key Findings
In 2023 the Austrian AI ecosystem developing at a steady pace with some important key trends emerging:
Constant growth from a high base: In line with previous years growth reached again 10%, inching even closer to. 400 entries which should be reached by mid of next year (2024).
First implications of the European AI Act: a growing number of specialized companies on trustworthy AI, compliance and regulation emerged. We expect this trend to accelerate in 2024 affecting many categories such as health & MedTech and HR Tech.
Change of guard: For the first time ever we had to remove 30+ entries from the landscape due to consolidation and bankruptcies. Own the bright side, this number was far for compensated by 60+ new entries
GenAI - everywhere: Generative AI didn’t just take the general public by storm but also had a lasting impact on established startups, newcomers and corporates alike. To account for this development and also give projects and creative agencies space, we decided to put a “genAI class of 2023” section in this iteration of the landscape. If the proliferation of genAI continuers we might eventually create a separate graphic and section on this page.
